The East Texas Oil Musuem (Kilgore)
On the campus of Kilgore College sits arguably one of the best Oil Industry Musuems in the World. The year 1930 changed Kilgore and East Texas forever with the discovery of the Daisy Bradford No. 3 well on the Daisy Bradford farm. The hundreds of resulting wells, some of which are still pumping, have produced more that 4.5 billion barrels of oil and were instrumental in the Allies win during World War II. At this unique and magical museum, you will step into a Kilgore of old and discover what it was like to live during "The Great East Texas Oil Boom". This museum offers a small town that gives you a small glimpse of the 1930's. Here you will also be able to ride an "elevator" through the layers of soil and rock that make up East Texas and watch a movie at the "Great East Texas Oil Boom" theater. The museum is home to amazing artifacts from the 1930's which are displayed in a non-typical museum fashion. This is a great place for kids and adults and is a wonderful destination for field trips.
