The Strand (Galveston)
Galveston boasts a lot of history and "The Strand" is the best place to experience it. Just minutes from the beach and beautiful historic homes you can delve into this rich historic "Downtown" part of the island by visiting the unique shops, restaurants, the Pier 21 theater, the Texas Seaport Musuem and the magnificent ship "Elissa" which has been beautifully restored. Also on the strand you can find the Railroad Museum which showcases Galveston's railroad legacy. The night life is rich here and the atmosphere unique from the cozy bars to the downtown grocery stores, this is an experience you don't want to miss. Want to catch a cruise ship to Mexico? Set sail from Galveston. Many of the hotels on The Strand and around Galveston Island offer deals for people departing on a cruise from the island.
